Music Therapy Connections provides so many unique opportunities for their students: the chance to learn more than one instrument during their lesson, 2 studio-wide recital days each year, and mini-recitals throughout the year. One of my favorite events, the Adult Recital, occurred last week!

MTC welcomes people of all ages through our doors for lessons and music therapy services. Yes, this includes adults! I applaud all of our adult students who choose to learn a new instrument or refine their pre-existing skills. It’s definitely not easy!

We have a good amount of adult students at MTC, so we have a recital specifically for them. Here are some of my highlights from the event.

Watching the Students Perform

This one is a bit obvious, but I cannot help but have a huge smile on my face watching all of the students perform. These students step out of their comfort zones to display what they have been working on to fellow adults. The amount of work they put in to these performances is amazing!

Performing Myself

I have gotten pretty comfortable with accompanying my students, but at this recital I also performed on my own. Although I am one of the instructors here, I also take my own guitar and piano lessons. At this recital, I performed a solo on guitar, which I had never done before! It was extremely vulnerable to perform something I am not super confident in in front of my own students, but I’m glad I did it.

Socialization

This recital also serves as a social gathering for our adult students. It is a time filled with laughter and smiles as we talk with each other. It was so great to overhear the praise they were giving each other regarding their performances. I will never get over how kind and supportive our group of adults is.

The adult recitals are truly among my favorite events of the year. My adult students are some of the most hardworking and dedicated people I know. I cannot wait for the next one!
