I don’t know about you, but I really wish spring would arrive! Here in Springfield, we have had glimpses of warmer weather, but it is quickly overturned as winter reminds us it is still here. I’m definitely having the winter blues.

I even had a transition into spring song, “Wave Goodbye to Winter” by Rachel Rambach, ready for my school-aged clients this week. That plan was short-lived as a snow storm arrived. The students even had a snow day on Wednesday!

As I desperately wait for spring’s arrival, here are a few things I do to try and combat those winter blues.

Keep Myself Busy

I have traveled to see loved ones almost every weekend since the New Year. The traveling can be exhausting, but it is so worth it to see the people that mean the most to me. I am someone who feeds off of the energy of those around me, so being with their smiling faces is important. When I’m at home, I try to keep myself busy by doing a craft or wedding planning. I also typically binge watch some Netflix while completing these tasks (let me know in the comments if you have any good show recommendations).

Plan Spring-Themed Interventions

As I keep looking forward to spring, I’ve found myself planning spring-themed interventions. In the case mentioned above, I may have been too eager to implement it! Besides interventions, other spring planning has been for a program at my school contract. We will be doing a Spring Sing, where they showcase some material we have been doing in our sessions! Getting to prepare for this has been lots of fun for me!

Self-Care

This should always be a priority, but the need for it has seemed to double for me this winter. I’ve tried to exercise more, eat better, and do more of the things I love (like the trips and crafts mentioned above).

I’m definitely looking forward to the spring weather. This weekend, it’s supposed to get up to 60 degrees in Springfield! Hopefully the warmth will stick around this time!

Are you experiencing the winter blues? What are your strategies to combat it?
