Emma Shafer Memorial Youth Music Education Scholarship
The Emma Shafer Memorial Youth Music Education Scholarship was established in memory of Emma Marie Shafer, a beloved community organizer, activist, and theater enthusiast who passed away on July 11, 2023, at the age of 24. Born and raised in Springfield, Emma was known for her passionate advocacy for social justice, her love of theater, and her commitment to creating a more equitable community. She found ways to combine her love for activism and theater, often participating in roles that reflected her values, such as her performances in The Diary of Anne Frank and Ragtime.
Emma’s dedication to uplifting others extended to her volunteer work, public service, and countless community projects, where she worked tirelessly for causes like immigrant rights, affordable housing, and environmental justice. She had a unique ability to connect with individuals, making each person feel important and heard. Her spirit of inclusivity, kindness, and activism lives on through this scholarship.
We are now accepting applications for the Emma Shafer Memorial Youth Music Education Scholarship, which will fund one year of individual music instruction (piano, voice, ukulele or guitar) for a school-aged student in the central Illinois area.
You are encouraged to share this opportunity with anyone you know who might be a good candidate for the scholarship.
The deadline for applying is Friday, December 6.
